DeGale vs Bute: Live streaming results and round by round coverage

James DeGale faces Lucian Bute in the main event, with a light heavyweight eliminator and two more bouts airing from Quebec City.

Amanda Westcott/SHOWTIME

Tonight at 9 pm EST, fights go live on Showtime Extreme and continue at 11 pm EST on Showtime, where James DeGale will defend the IBF super middleweight title against former titleholder Lucian Bute in the main event.

DeGale (21-1, 14 KO) won the vacant IBF belt with a victory over Andre Dirrell on May 23, and this is his first defense of that title. The 29-year-old British southpaw has really begun to look like the fighter he was hyped to be as a prospect in recent bouts. Bute (32-2, 25 KO) has had a rough go of it in recent years, starting with his wipeout loss to Carl Froch in 2012. He's 2-1 since then, but his loss in 2014 to Jean Pascal said a lot more than wins over Denis Grachev in 2013 and Andrea Di Luisa this year. There are questions as to whether or not the 35-year-old Romanian-Canadian, also a southpaw, really has it anymore.

The Showtime co-feature is a light heavyweight eliminator between Eleider Alvarez (18-0, 10 KO) and Isaac Chilemba (24-2-2, 10 KO), with the winner in line for a shot at Adonis Stevenson. On Showtime Extreme, heavyweights Oscar Rivas (17-0, 12 KO) and Joey Abell (31-8, 29 KO) will open with a 10-round bout, followed by top junior welterweight prospect Amir Imam (18-0, 15 KO) taking on tough young gatekeeper Adrian Granados (16-4-2, 11 KO) in another 10-round fight.

ROUND BY ROUND

JAMES DEGALE vs LUCIAN BUTE

Round 1: DeGale rushes right to Bute as he said he would. DeGale mixing to the head and body. He's fighting like he has no respect for Bute's ability to handle pressure. Bute back with a combo and lands a left to the head, then another left gets in. Bute finding some power shots here as we enter the second half of the round, and he got a body shot in, which used to be his money. DeGale back to the body, now chopping away. Both guys throwing in close, and DeGale lands a hard left upstairs. Bute taking shots here for a moment. Hard jab gets in for DeGale as he's keeping a high pace here late in the round. DeGale 10-9

Round 2: Let's see if round two continues that pace. Bute with a body shot, DeGale backs down after that. He goes back to the body, does Bute. A sentence, that was. Bute pushing his jab into DeGale's face. DeGale to the body now. Bute back to the body. Chopping left from DeGale, and he's got a rhythm now. Bute throws one left, partially blocked, DeGale comes back in combination. DeGale working in and out, keeping the right range. DeGale 10-9, 20-18

Round 3: Will be interesting to see if DeGale can keep this pace, he did fade a bit against Dirrell. Bute pressing a bit more in the first minute and change, but DeGale not avoiding the action, either. DeGale whacks to the body, then goes upstairs. DeGale's output is really impressive so far. DeGale really investing in the body now, and throwing a lot in combination. Bute not doing the same. Bute's 35 and hasn't been too active the past few years. Bute is fighting pretty well but getting swarmed in there. DeGale on another level right now. DeGale with a flurry at the end of the round. Fun fight! DeGale 10-9, 30-27

Round 4: DeGale using his feet to start this round, Bute not closing the gap as well as he might want. Bute slipping shots, but DeGale lands an uppercut. Bute back with one of his own. DeGale back to the body. Bute to the body. Crowd getting loud for Bute, and he's throwing shots in combination now. Getting physical inside, both guys using their shoulders to try and create space. DeGale with a right hook. Bute 10-9, DeGale 39-37

Round 5: DeGale's output is really dropping, and Bute is starting to walk him down. DeGale is doing enough to stay in the rounds, but Bute's becoming more successful. DeGale has a small cut. DeGale rips in with a couple of uppercuts. Good right hand from DeGale. Bute stalking better and getting the crowd riled up. Bute 10-9, DeGale 48-47

Round 6: The cut over DeGale's left eye was officially caused by a headbutt. Back to a better pace for DeGale in this round. Well a faster pace. Not sure if it's better, I don't know his cardio. Good round again, in what has been a very entertaining fight. DeGale with some HARD shots to the body and head with the right hand late in the round. Bute fires back, DeGale fires BACK back. DeGale may have taken back the initiative. DeGale 10-9, 58-56

Round 7: DeGale back in a clear rhythm, Bute having moments but DeGale in control. Bute backs DeGale to a corner and looks to unload, but DeGale gets the guard up high. Bute chasing DeGale down in the latter portion of the round, but finding it hard to land clean. Straight left to the body from Bute. DeGale 10-9, 68-65

Round 8: Bute cutting off the ring to start this round. DeGale unloading with power shots now though, at mid ring. Straight left from Bute. He's shooting that punch a lot this round. I like DeGale again this round, but this has been competitive all the way. DeGale 10-9, 78-74

Round 9: Bute corners DeGale again a little over a minute into this round, and lands a little before DeGale gets out. Body shots from DeGale, and he's using the elbow to create space and is again warned for that. It's the right call. Bute walking down DeGale again, and the crowd is getting wild. Hard body shots from DeGale, but he's not backing Bute off. Good end of the round for DeGale, but this was a Bute round. Bute 10-9, DeGale 87-84

Round 10: DeGale using his feet again to start this round, and Bute is chasing with purpose. DeGale to the body, Bute to the body. This is a slow round for this fight but not terribly slow. DeGale sort of staying out of the pocket more though, taking a bit of a breather, but doing so effectively still. DeGale 10-9, 97-93

Round 11: More action to start this round, DeGale getting the better of it. His mouthpiece comes out and Bute allows him time to get it back instead of attacking. Bute with a straight left. Both guys shoving, physically grinding in close quarters. Left up top, right to the body from DeGale. Left hand from DeGale. Back to the body. Bute with a good body shot, though, and he storms to close the round. Malignaggi thinks DeGale was hurt on that body shot but played it off well. Bute 10-9, DeGale 106-103

Round 12: DeGale coming out FIRING in round 12! Catches Bute with a left upstairs. Bute right there with him, but DeGale is taking control of this round early. Left to the body, jabs, DeGale back to the body. Bute lands back! Great atmosphere! Both guys fighting hard in round 12! DeGale with a big left hand. DeGale in control, he's pushing the pace. Bute fires back but that opens up for DeGale to land to the body again. DeGale with a hard cross. DeGale just pouring it on here, Bute trying to walk through everything and find the big shot. We're winding it down here, and DeGale is still in control. Bute trying to find the big shot, but can't get it. DeGale 10-9, 116-112

ELEIDER ALVAREZ vs ISAAC CHILEMBA

Round 1: Alvarez shoots a couple of jabs to the body right away, and he's coming out a bit more aggressive, showing his speed. Alvarez lays back a moment from there, but lands a clean lead right. Not flush, but clean. Chilemba not doing anything in the opening frame. Alvarez 10-9

Round 2: Alvarez in firm control of what has been a, uhh, "cerebral" fight. "Tactical." Two counter punchers. Alvarez 10-9, 20-18

Round 3: Alvarez, good fighter. Chilemba, good fighter. The two of them together, lousy fight. Styles are just a terrible match for action. Alvarez 10-9, 30-27

Round 4: Alvarez’s speed a big advantage in this fight. Chilemba is a good, sound fighter who doesn’t really make mistakes. But no second gear. Chilemba does a bit better this round but not a lot. Alvarez 10-9, 40-36

Round 5: The last couple of rounds have been more watchable. Chilemba picking up his pace helps, and he's landing the occasional shot. But Alvarez is still in control and it's hard to see Chilemba getting these rounds. Alvarez 10-9, 50-45

Round 6: Chilemba won this round. I'm really tired and this isn't compelling so my typing is not on point. DEAL WITH IT SUCKERS, it's been a long day. Chilemba 10-9, Alvarez 59-55

Round 7: Chilemba lands a nice right early in this round and he seems to have found a useful plan of attack. Alvarez targeting the body a bit. But Chilemba is really starting to put some shots together, and you could argue this is a third straight round for him. Good body shots from Chilemba. Chilemba 10-9, Alvarez 68-65

Round 8: Alvarez coming out looking to take the lead again this round, we'll see if that sticks. It does not, really. Chilemba taking the fight back to him, and suddenly they're trading flurries in close, right at the center of the ring. HEY! Good action. Good rights from Alvarez. Fun stuff suddenly. Good right from Chilemba. There's an uppercut left and a right hand following from Alvarez. Alvarez 10-9, 78-74

Round 9: Chilemba's right hand working again in the first half of this round. Alvarez keeping pace with Chilemba, but I think IC landed the better shots in this round. Chilemba 10-9, Alvarez 87-84

Round 10: Certainly not a terrible fight. Has picked up in the second half enough to be perfectly watchable. Chilemba takes another round for me. Could be possible to have this even right now, though I doubt that's the case. Chilemba 10-9, Alvarez 96-94

Round 11: Alvarez starts the round fast, maybe looking to take back some momentum. Decent round again for action. Not a lot of big, clean punching, but no huge lulls. Close round, could go either way. And that could be hugely important now. Chilemba 10-9, Alvarez 105-104

Round 12: Alvarez attacking more consistently this round and this may be just enough for him to pull this out. I think so, anyway. Alvarez 10-9, 115-113

AMIR IMAM vs ADRIAN GRANADOS

Round 1: Granados storms out of the corner and goes right at Imam, but Imam shuts that down fairly quickly and forces Granados back to range. OH MY DOWN GOES GRANADOS ON A COUNTER RIGHT! Granados up but Imam smells blood now and he's on the attack, catching Granados with another hard right hand. Granados manages to last the round. Imam 10-8

Round 2: Much better second round for Granados, as he finds a home for his right hand a few times, and I think he did enough to win this round. Granados 10-9, Imam 19-18

Round 3: Hey, you know what, Granados continues to outwork Imam, and he takes another round. Imam has that power that can end a fight at any time, but he's playing into Granados' game right now. Granados 10-9, 28-28

Round 4: This is turning into a VERY interesting fight, and Granados is continuing to sort of dominate the pace and dictate the tempo. Imam's physical advantages are not really playing into the fight now, though he's doing some good work. This is sort of a 50-50 round, both guys landing a fair amount. Granados 10-9, 38-37

Round 5: The pace is staying hot and Granados is outworking Imam quite a bit in the early going. Imam just getting whacked around at moments. Imam looking at the body here and there. Imam is going backwards awkwardly now. Granados is all over him in the corner and landing repeated clean shots! Imam back with a right, but eats another clean right. Huge round for Granados. Granados 10-9, 48-46

Round 6: Granados winning handily but needs to chill a bit. Taking risks he no longer needs to take. Fight is totally in control. Just work. That said, it's another round for him, and Imam is not looking good. Granados 10-9, 58-55

Round 7: Granados taking another round. Imam tried to jab and move to start this round, but he can't keep Granados off of him, and he's getting worn out in there. Granados averaging around 90 punches a round and he is just working Imam to death in there. Granados pushing Imam around, smacking him around, doing all sorts of things around. Imam is being beaten up in this fight. Granados 10-9, 68-64

Round 8: Imam getting his head rocked around in there. Holding more. Trying to work inside, but it's definitely Granados' territory. Imam looking a little wobbly again in the final minute. He appears to have nothing left and Granados just won't stop firing power shots. Imam ready to go and IT IS STOPPED! BIG UPSET! Granados TKO-8

OSCAR RIVAS vs JOEY ABELL

Round 1: Fairly slow opening round for the two heavyweights, who are a lot shorter than the heavyweights we watched earlier on. Rivas lands a few decent power shots and probably takes the round. Rivas 10-9

Round 2: Rivas hurts Abell early in the round and then beats the living crap out of him until the fight is over. Rivas TKO-2
