DeGale vs Bute results: Eleider Alvarez edges Isaac Chilemba by majority decision

Eleider Alvarez is in line for a shot at Adonis Stevenson after a narrow win against Isaac Chilemba.

Amanda Westcott/SHOWTIME

Two of the judges were watching the fight, and a third might have been, ultimately resulting in a majority decision win tonight for Eleider "Storm" Alvarez over Isaac Chilemba, putting Alvarez in line for a shot at WBC light heavyweight titleholder Adonis Stevenson.

Scores for the fight were 114-114, 115-113, and 118-110 for Alvarez (19-0, 10 KO), who started fast, withered a bit in the middle rounds, and basically survived in the later frames, working with a bit of an empty gas tank down the stretch. Chilemba (24-3-2, 10 KO) certainly won more than two rounds, and that card from Connecticut judge Peter Hary has been rightly picked apart already.

BLH had the fight 115-113 for Alvarez, who really did just enough in a fight that had some slow spots but was also pretty entertaining in spurts, too. On the SHOStats, the fight was pretty much dead even.

Alvarez, 31, is now WBC mandatory, and would be an attractive opponent for Stevenson (27-1, 22 KO) should that fight actually come together. Both are based in Quebec and have some notoriety there, but the bigger fight for Stevenson is a clash with fellow titleholder Sergey Kovalev, and the two met up tonight in Quebec.

How did you score this fight? Did you also have it 118-110?
