Yesterday, an official announcement was made that heavyweight contender Dereck Chisora would be joining Team Sauerland after a lengthy run with promoter Frank Warren. Chisora (22-5, 14 KOs), 31, will be making his debut under his new outfit this Saturday against TBA in Hamburg, Germany.
"I'm excited to be working with the Sauerlands," Chisora said. "This is a start of a new chapter for me. I've got a whole new team around me and I'm looking forward to getting back in the mix starting on Dec. 5. I'm fit, I'm focused and ready to rock 'n' roll."
Chisora is current on a two fight win streak since retiring between rounds against newly minted heavyweight champion Tyson Fury at this time last year. He's never been able to get over that proverbial hump in his biggest opportunities, but he's hoping to make another run at it, and his new promoter is hoping for just the same.
"We're thrilled to welcome Dereck to the team," promoter Nisse Sauerland said. "The heavyweight scene is thriving at the moment and I believe he still has a big part to play in this. I've been impressed with his attitude. The determination and desire is still there and I expect him to be back challenging for titles in the new year."
Do any of you see Chisora really getting back into the heavyweight mix, or has he already peaked, not quite being world title material?
