Badou Jack retained his WBC super middleweight title this past September when he beat mandatory challenger George Groves via split decision. Now, a couple of months removed from the fight, Jack reflects on how everything went down.
"It was a pretty good fight," Jack told RingTV.com at the WBC convention in Kunming, China. "I knew (Groves) has a lot of experience of big fights, so I knew he was good. At this level, no fight is easy. He's definitely a very good fighter. He came to win, he did what he could but it wasn't enough."
So now with his mandatory defense out of the way, Jack is looking towards his next big fight and already has a couple of names in mind.
"We'll see who's next. It could be (Julio Cesar) Chavez Jr. I don't know yet. He's got a good name from his father. He's a former world champ too and there's money in that fight, so absolutely. For me, I would like to fight him next.
"I would like to fight James DeGale. I like the (British) fans," he explained. "He's fighting (Lucian) Bute now (on Nov. 28). Maybe I'll fight Chavez and, in the summertime, I can fight DeGale in a unification bout."
It's still unclear, and probably somewhat doubtful, that Chavez Jr. would even make the 168lb limit, but he's still a big name and can draw a crowd (even if his ability to do so is starting to fade). So this could well be the biggest fight for Jack to make at this time, as it pertains to money.
As for a potential unification fight for DeGale, it's an interesting match-up and probably something of a toss-up at this point. I'm not sure I could pick a favorite right now but you tell me fans, how do you like a fight between Jack and DeGale? Who would you favor and why?
