Brandon Rios was slightly overweight on the scales today for tomorrow night's HBO main event from Las Vegas, coming in 0.2 pounds over the welterweight limit for his WBO title fight against titleholder Timothy Bradley, who was ripped and ready as always at 146 pounds, one under the limit.
Rios (33-2-1, 24 KO) has an hour to drop the 0.2 pounds, but he looked dry and had the sort of gaunt face we saw back in 2011-12 when he missed weight at 135 pounds for fights with John Murray and Richar Abril. In other words, expecting the best of Brandon Rios tomorrow night may be a fool's errand, but remember he still fought ferociously against Murray. He did struggle with the more mobile, craftier Abril, though.
Bradley (32-1-1, 12 KO) will be ready to go either way, and we'll have to see what new trainer Teddy Atlas has as a game plan for this fight. Rios may have made it easier for them already.
In the HBO co-feature, Vasyl Lomachenko (4-1, 2 KO) will defend the WBO featherweight title against Mexico's Romulo Koasicha (25-4, 15 KO). Both fighters weighed in at 125.6 pounds, comfortably below the 126-pound limit.
