Felix Verdejo gave the fans in San Juan, Puerto Rico the main event results they wanted, arriving to a big reaction and ending to one even bigger after demolishing Brazil's Josenilson dos Santos in the second round, pushing his pro record to 19-0 (14 KO).
Verdejo, 22, felt things out in the opening round against a rare opponent who was taller than him. At 5'9", the Puerto Rican prospect is a big lightweight, but dos Santos is listed at 5'11" and was clearly a little bit taller in real actual life, too. While the opening round was uneventful and the majority of round two wasn't much more, Verdejo pounced with a massive right hand that dropped dos Santos (27-4, 17 KO) hard. When dos Santos got back to his feet, he was clearly done, and the fight was stopped after a count was given.
Verdejo reported no issues with the hand that was injured earlier this year, limiting him to three fights in 2015. But he heads into 2016 with a nice victory at home in Puerto Rico, and looking to really build some steam in a pretty wide-open division.
