Frankie Gomez-Hank Lundy could be on deck for Feb. 5th

Frankie Gomez could be set up for his toughest fight yet against Hank Lundy on a Golden Boy Estrella TV card.

According to Golden Boy VP Eric Gomez, a fight between top prospect Frankie Gomez and Hammerin' Hank Lundy is in the works for a February 5th Golden Boy card on Estrella TV. Gomez (19-0, 13 KOs) of East Los Angeles, is deemed to be one of the very best prospects in the sport, but he's been plagued by relative inactivity and an undisciplined approach to the sport which leave many to wonder if he'll ever reach his potential.

Gomez, despite his immense talent, has missed weight for fights on several occasions and has run into some legal issues after a standout amateur career. There have been big expectations for him since signing with Golden Boy in 2010, but much of those expectations have yet to be realized. Trainer Freddie Roach was recently quoted as saying that he believes Gomez could be the best prospect in the world, but that he's only seen him in the gym once since his last fight in October, taking to video to plead with Gomez to get his behind back in the gym.

Lundy (26-5-1, 13 KOs), was coming off two decision losses to Thomas Dulorme and Mauricio Herrera (the latter of which was a tough break) before coming back to TKO Carlos Winston Velasquez in the 5th round this past October. If this fight between Gomez and Lundy gets finalized, it should be a highly competitive match-up that really either guy could win.
