Today at 5:45 pm EST on HBO, Gennady Golovkin will defend his WBA middleweight title against Martin Murray from Monte Carlo, as the Kazakh destroyer takes on another top 10 contender and stays busy as always.
Golovkin (31-0, 28 KO) last fought in October, knocking out Marco Antonio Rubio in the second round in Los Angeles. He's taken a yearly first quarter trip to Monte Carlo the last three years now, previously beating Nobuhiro Ishida and Osumanu Adama in mismatches. Murray (29-1-1, 12 KO) is a more legitimate contender than those guys were, and has acquitted himself nicely in a pair of world title fights before.
Murray fought to a controversial draw with Felix Sturm in 2011 and lost a highly debated decision to Sergio Martinez in 2013. Both of those were road fights, as he faced Sturm in Germany and Martinez in Argentina. This is a fight on neutral ground, but getting to the final bell against GGG hasn't been done by anyone in Golovkin's last 18 fights, with only Kassim Ouma, Gabriel Rosado, Curtis Stevens, and Adama getting past the fifth round.
We'll be here with live coverage this afternoon, so join us to see one of the most exciting fighters in the world in action.
