After five-plus years of failed negotiation and anticipation, Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are finally set to meet on May 2 in Las Vegas, and today at 4:30 pm EST, they will go face to face for the first time in Los Angeles to formally announce the fight.
Mayweather (47-0, 26 KO) and Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 KO) went through a fairly brief but intense round of negotiations this time around, with Pacquiao conceding on many counts in order to make the fight happen, and Mayweather proving that he did, indeed, want the fight. The two fighters themselves have been given the bulk of the credit for actually getting the deal done, along with CBS head Les Moonves, who was also instrumental in bringing Showtime, his company representing Mayweather, and HBO, with Pacquiao and Top Rank, together to make the PPV logistics work.
It's going to be almost surreal seeing these two on the dais together, eye-to-eye for photos, ready for a fight in just under two months. But we've got it coming today.
