Shawn Porter's spot on the PBC on Spike card has been saved, after scheduled opponent Roberto Garcia failed to show for the weigh-in earlier after CSAC officials noted he was suffering from dehydration and B12 poisoning. Garcia has been replaced by Erick Bone for the fight.
Bone (16-1, 8 KO) is a 26-year-old fighter from Ecuador who has won four straight after a 2013 loss to Alberto Mosquera in his home country. This is a big opportunity for him, obviously, as he'll be facing a former titleholder looking to bounce back from his first pro loss.
Porter (24-1-1, 15 KO) will certainly be the big favorite with this opponent change -- he was a firm favorite against Garcia, too -- but it could also be a trap. If Bone brings something Porter didn't prepare to face, you just never know. In that respect, Porter and his team should be commended for daring to take on a true last-minute replacement foe in order to get back into the ring. There's no guarantee here, and late subs can be a huge pain, but Porter needs the work and it's time for him to fight again.
