Mayweather vs Pacquiao: Mayweather mural to be displayed at MGM Grand during fight week

Artist Dave Hobrecht has painted a 12' x 4' mural of Floyd Mayweather for display in Las Vegas during Mayweather-Pacquiao fight week.

Mayweather Promotions commissioned artist Dave Hobrecht to produce a 12-foot by 4-foot painting of Floyd Mayweather Jr. for the occasion of his May 2nd meeting with Manny Pacquiao. The piece depicts the arc of Mayweather's career, and includes a couple of other familiar faces— previous Mayweather foes Robert Guerrero, Miguel Cotto, and Juan Manuel Marquez. According to Hobrecht's press release, the artist will also incorporate used items from the Mayweather Boxing Club (jump ropes, speed bags, ring mats, corner post covers, heavy bags, rope straps) into the painting. The piece will be displayed at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino, where the match is to take place, from April 27 to May 3.

Hobrecht, based in Laguna Beach, CA, specializes in black and white sports paintings. This is not his first boxing piece; he has also done images of Oscar De La Hoya, Larry Holmes, and Muhammed Ali.

This being a super mega huge fight, Mayweather vs Pacquiao doesn't exactly adhere to a standard A-side/B-side model as far as the audience dynamic goes— both fighters are famous to the point of being iconic and have massive fan bases— but as far as the business and promotion end goes, Mayweather is definitely side-A. For Mayweather, who lives and trains in Las Vegas, the MGM Grand is home turf (it has been the site of his last ten bouts, going back to his 2007 match against De La Hoya), and the display of Hobrecht's painting at the site plays into that idea. (Although Pacquaio is himself no stranger to the venue; since 2011, his fights on American soil have all been held at the MGM Grand.)

Further images of the Mayweather painting, as well as information on ordering prints, are available on the artist's website.
