Canelo-Kirkland face off in Houston

Canelo Alavarez and James Kirkland stand toe-to-toe at their press conference yesterday.

The press conference for Canelo Alvarez-James Kirkland kicked off yesterday, with the two fighters facing off for the first time. Amidst the photo ops and pleasantries, we also heard some fans shouting out random things like "Make it rain G-Unit!" Hey - as long as there's enthusiasm it's all good I suppose.

It was also a little difficult to determine Kirkland's current shape with the large baseball jerseys on, but It seems to me he still has some weight cutting to do. He doesn't appear, however, to be nearing that 200lb mark as was the rumor going around. Or maybe he was but has been putting in plenty of roadwork already, who knows...

The stare down itself looked pretty intense, with the age-old "let's see who blinks first" game going on. After an awkward length of time, Canelo finally conceded and turned away to face the crowd. Perhaps Kirkland can find a small victory in that because without Anne Wolfe, I'm skeptical about him getting an actual victory in the ring.
