Brent Stover of CBS Sports Network will join Paulie Malignaggi as ringside analysts for the PBC on CBS. They will also be accompanied by boxing trainer Virgil Hunter and Kevin Harlan who has done NFL play-by-play. This is an interesting mix of characters and I'm curious to see how they all mesh together for the show. Their first broadcast will be held this Saturday in Quebec City for the Adonis Stevenson-Saiko Bika card.
"The Premier Boxing Champions series on CBS will help usher in a new era in the storied history of boxing," said Stephen Espinoza, executive vice president and general manager of Showtime Sports."
"The benefit of elevating the sport across these platforms for all involved, including Showtime, is immeasurable."
Sometimes I wonder how many times Espinoza has had to practice those lines in the mirror before he could deliver it with a straight face. I've heard him state this very same thing, verbatim, on several occasions. If all goes well, perhaps this could end up proving beneficial for Showtime (provided that the stars end up going back there), but in the short term, their schedule is looking pretty thin. Do you all think the PBC platform will provide immeasurable benefits to Showtime boxing?
