Amir Khan confirms Chris Algieri fight on May 30th

Amir Khan announces that he'll be fighting Chris Algieri in his next outing, May 30th.

Wil Esco is an assistant editor of Bad Left Hook and has been covering boxing for SB Nation since 2014.

Amir Khan took to social media to make the announcement for his next fight. It appears Chris Algieri will get call to take on the Bolton fighter. I said yesterday that I thought the idea of this match-up was pretty much a crap fight, and I don't feel any differently today after the announcement. AND LET'S JUST WAIT A SECOND! Did Amir really just say that Manny's win over Algieri got him the Mayweather fight?! As if beating Chris Algieri somehow earns you a shot at Floyd?! He also just labeled Algieri as an A-class fighter that "fell just short against Manny Pacquiao." No Amir, Algieri didn't fall short, he fell over - SIX TIMES! My god - the man is more delusional than I even thought...

I'm kind of inclined to believe that Khan is looking to take easy bouts until he can secure a big name like Pacquiao or Mayweather. Chris Algieri was exposed at the elite level of the sport when he fought Manny Pacquiao, and if Khan really fancies himself an elite fighter (which he always does), then he really shouldn't be fighting Chris Algieri.

I suppose, just to be fair to Algieri, I'll make a very early prediction of Khan winning every single round against him en route to a unanimous decision victory. From an irony standpoint, Khan was just ridiculing Brook for fighting someone of Jo Jo Dan's caliber, but I'm not so sure that Algieri is much better...Oh well, who's excited?
