Golden Boy Promotions has some action going on tonight in Indio, California, as they're back on FOX Sports 1 with a junior welterweight main event from the Fantasy Springs Casino. Live coverage will begin at 10 pm EST.
In the main event, Mercito Gesta (28-1-1, 16 KO) will face Carlos Molina (17-2-1, 7 KO) in a 10-round fight. Gesta is one of many "Next Pacquiao" fighters from the Philippines, in the same way that Steve Forbert was once considered one of many "Next Dylan" singer-songerwriters.
The 27-year-old Gesta flamed out pretty hard in a 2012 lightweight title shot against Miguel Vazquez, but is now looking to get himself back on track. He's won two straight. Molina, 29, is familiar to fight fans as a sacrificial lamb in his last two bouts, fed first to Amir Khan in December 2012, then to Adrien Broner in May 2014. Molina is not a bad fighter, but he was fighting way over his head in those bouts. This is really more his level.
I'll be here with live coverage this evening. Join me as we remember that Golden Boy Promotions is still out there this week!

ROUND BY ROUND
Mercito Gesta vs Carlos Molina
Round 1: Molina storms right out with a left hook that lands. Molina looks all business here, and Gesta might have to adjust himself a little bit. Quick exchange with both throwing. Molina poking out a jab. Gesta with a right to the body, Molina (the fan favorite) strikes back and then comes in with a three punch combination. Not big clean shots, but good work. Gesta shaking off the shots but not getting off. Gesta short on a jab, Molina's response lands. Good opening round for Molina and he tags Gesta again near the bell. Molina 10-9
Round 2: Molina staying aggressive in round two, landing a couple of good shots in the first minute. Gesta looking for the way in, but he's prone to going inactive, so he might want to get going here. Gesta lands a shot, but he gets drilled in return, too. Molina's counters looking good so far when Gesta does throw, which could further deter Mercito. Molina 10-9, 20-18
Round 3: Gesta definitely coming out more aggressive to start the third round, perhaps feeling the pressure. This is making him much more effective, as Molina doesn't have the time to pick shots as he did in the first two. But there's a right from Molina, and Gesta goes to the body in response. Molina sneaks in a hook but Gesta lands a few shots in return. Good round for Mercito. Gesta 10-9, Molina 29-28
Round 4: Gesta controlling the first minute of the round here, may have found his comfort zone. Molina starting to show signs of Gesta getting to him mentally, as Mercito is landing with both hands, to the head and body. His jab is working, too, as Molina's left eye can attest. Another good round, and we're even up with the momentum heading Gesta's way. Gesta 10-9, 38-38
Round 5: Both landing good shots in this round, Gesta looking comfortable and Molina looking scrappy, more or less. Gesta landing his jab out of the southpaw stance and marking Molina up, but Carlos is right there with him this round. Left from Gesta, Molina right back with a right. Gesta with a combo, Molina fires back, and Gesta pushes Molina to the ropes and lands more shots. This is the best round of a good fight. Gesta 10-9, 48-47
Round 6: Gesta wearing down Molina, I think. Molina still game and fighting, but Gesta looking fresher and quicker, and the gap between them is widening on those counts. Gesta pushing him back, his shots look sharper, and he's out-working Molina now. Body shots from Gesta, then a shot upstairs, Molina lands back and Gesta goes back a bit. Gesta 10-9, 58-56
Round 7: More good action in this round. I liked Molina in this round. I was eating Wheat Thins. I didn't type. I'm unprofessional. Molina 10-9, Gesta 67-66
Round 8: More Wheat Thins. I'm hungry. I didn't type again. This remains a good fight. I liked Molina this round, but it was very close. I've got it even after eight. Molina 10-9, 76-76
Round 9: Molina again! My mind is wandering. Long week. But I'm staring at the fight, I promise. Molina 10-9, 86-85
Round 10: Gesta coming out aggressively in the final round and landing some shots. Molina missing with his shots and Gesta touching him right now. Half a round left to go, the round and the fight up for grabs. Gesta with little pot shots again. And again, Molina sticks in one shot. In close and Molina throws, then pushes Gesta back to the ropes. Gesta gets out before any real damage is done. Lead right from Molina. Another right hand from Molina! Gesta is looking for the clock, I think. Gesta with a little flurry, not much on it. Another lead right from Molina, and then Gesta fires back with a big shot that rocks Molina's head around! I liked Molina landing the more significant shots here, and I nudge the fight his way. Molina 10-9, 96-94
Rafael Gramajo vs Luis Cosme
Round 1: This ends in about a minute with Gramajo battering him to the body and then the head. Lefts and rights, down goes Cosme, and it's over. Gramajo TKO-1
Jeffrey Fontanez vs Jose Hernandez
Round 1: Wow, Fontanez DRILLS Hernandez in round 1 and down he goes. His legs are gone but Pat Russell is going to let him try. Hernandez takes a knee and the fight is waved off. Really strong performance from Fontanez. Hernandez is a tough kid. Fontanez TKO-1
Jason Quigley vs Joshua Snyder
Round 1: A slight delay before we get started as Snyder is wearing a sleeve on his right elbow, which he says is for support. Just let the guy get knocked out already. Quigley extremely aggressive to start, Snyder looking to fire back. Quigley firing power punches to the head and body. Uppercut inside from Snyder, who is doing the best he can to stand his ground, but Quigley just hurt him and pushed him back. About a minute left in the round. Snyder hanging on, though. Fun round, and Snyder eats another right just before the bell. Quigley 10-9
Round 2: Quigley comes out looking for a finish right away, and he is smashing -- OHHH! Snyder gets WRECKED! Game over, man. Finishing sequence saw a right cross to the head, a couple body shots, a hook that really finished it, and then a right hand that caught him on the way down. Quigley TKO-2
