Nonito Donaire will return to action on July 18 in Macau, and is reportedly working on a deal to face Mexico's Hugo Ruiz, a former bantamweight title challenger and a legitimate opponent.
Donaire (34-3, 22 KO) returned to the super bantamweight division for his last fight in March, which took place in the Philippines. It's his only fight since a one-sided loss at featherweight to Nicholas Walters last October. The 32-year-old "Filipino Flash" is looking to reestablish himself as a top fighter in the sport, which at 32 and with some questions about his true hunger to fight is going to be a challenge.
Ruiz (35-2, 31 KO) has won four straight in Mexico after a split decision loss in Japan to Koki Kameda in a bid for the WBA bantamweight title back in 2012. His only other loss came in 2007.
Also featured on the card in Macau will be the return of Brian Viloria, plus an IBF lightweight title fight between Mickey Bey and Denis Shafikov.
