Leo Santa Cruz was handed a walkover fight in his featherweight debut, but part-time boxer Jose Cayetano wasn't interested in getting an easy paycheck. Santa Cruz, as always, was relentless, stalking Cayetano and strafing him to body and head, even switching to southpaw at one point. Cayetano lasted through it all, even managing to land some hard counters here and there. At no point was the fight truly competitive, and Santa Cruz easily won every round, but Cayetano was certainly tough enough to make it interesting. And in the process he probably upset a lot of gamblers expecting him to fall early.
Leo Santa Cruz made some fans happy during his post-fight interview when he told Jim Gray, with breathless excitement, that he wanted to fight Abner Mares next, a welcome change from his usual diet of soft touches.
Leo Santa Cruz defeats Jose Cayetano by Unanimous Decision (100-90 x 3)
Bad Left Hook scored it 100-90
