Giovani Segura eyes Roman Gonzalez

Giovani Segura says that he's likely the next challenger for the RING flyweight champion Roman Gonzalez in an HBO-televised show in a few months.

Flyweight Giovanni Segura (32-4-1, 28 knockouts) hasn't fought since an 11th round stoppage loss to Juan Francisco Estrada in September of last year. Despite that loss, he believes he's next in line to challenge Roman Gonzalez for his titles in an HBO televised bout that will take place in August of September. But Segura isn't going to jump right back into the lion's den after a loss, he's planning on taking a quick tune up in June before taking on Gonzalez.

"My manager told me that it's almost official," said Segura of a Gonzalez fight.

An HBO source declined to comment on the matter, citing their policy of not discussing fights that haven't been officially announced. But Roman Gonzalez certainly delivered as promised with an impressive debut performance on HBO last weekend, scoring a second round knockout of Edgar Sosa - and the network is surely planning a follow up show for El Chocolatito in the near future. Segura thinks he's the obvious candidate considering the style clash, which would undoubtedly make for an action fight.

"The fact that he goes forward and I go forward, he's not like a fighter that moves around. It's always an advantage for me because I know I'm a strong fighter and he's a strong fighter. That fight, I see it definitely not going the distance," said Segura.

"I've been through this. I've fallen and I've gotten up from it. I have been through hell already and I know what I need to do to get that victory."

These little guys rarely get the spotlight on the big stage so I, for one, think it's good that they get a chance to display their skills on a big network in front of a wide audience. But how do you feel about this potential match-up?
