Watch Taishan Dong land a huge knockout punch

Taishan Dong knocked out some dude on Friday night. Pretty wild!

Scott Christ is the managing editor of Bad Left Hook and has been covering boxing for SB Nation since 2006.

On Friday night in Indio, California, Chinese heavyweight project Taishan Dong returned to action on a FOX Sports 1-televised event from the Fantasy Springs, and scored a crushing one-punch knockout of a club fighter named Lance Gauch.

The video above has the KO, obviously, and yes, it's brutal. But as one can plainly see, Gauch (5-9-2, 3 KO) can only be loosely described as a professional boxer, as he has indeed boxed professionally, such as here, where he gets his lights turned out in 2:32 by a 7-foot tall, 285-pound tower of muscle. Gauch, who weighed in at 291½ pounds for the fight, made Chris Arreola look like Wladimir Klitschko physically.

This type of mismatch is quite common in boxing, of course, but most of the fights are properly hidden from national television. Golden Boy, however, has decided that Taishan (5-0, 3 KO) is a fighter they need to air on television routinely, bringing to mind the harsh memories of Versus cards headlined by the very imitable Tye Fields.
