Both Danny Garcia and Daniel Jacobs are set to appear on ESPN's second telecast of Premier Boxing Champions, slated for August 1st at The Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Danny Garcia still holds the WBC junior welterweight title despite not having defended the title in his last two outings, and it's believed that Garcia will once again be fighting in another nontitle bout this August - with no indication that the WBC will ever strip him of his title. For those of you giving Cotto a hard time for holding his belt hostage, just know that Garcia will not have defended his belt in nearly a year-and-a-half.
Neither Garcia nor Jacobs' opponents have been finalized just yet but ESPN is reporting that Garcia is likely to face Paulie Malignaggi, a Brooklyn native. Paulie was scheduled to fight Danny O'Connor on May 29th but had to pull out of the fight after he sustained a cut over his eye during training. Malignaggi has been out of action since getting blitzed by Shawn Porter last year, though he's been campaigning for a big fight, even trying to talk himself into getting a shot at Manny Pacquiao. He could well find himself right back in the spotlight with this fight.
Daniel Jacobs is rumored to be defending his WBA title on this card, facing either Sergio Mora or Matthew Macklin. Jacobs is coming off a 12th round TKO victory over Caleb Truax in April.
