Carl Frampton, who recently teamed up with Al Haymon, has his first American fight date set. He'll be fighting Alejandro Gonzalez Jr. on July 18th in El Paso, TX, defending his IBF world title. This bout will headline Haymon's PBC on CBS card.
Gonazalez Jr. (25-1-2, 15 knockouts) is a 21 year-old fighter hailing from Tijuana, Mexico. He's currently ranked 13th by the IBF but hasn't fought anywhere near this level of competition before, nevertheless, he's game for the challenge and ready to take a stab at a world title.
"Alejandro Gonzalez Jr. is a dangerous challenger but he has never fought anyone like me and on July 18 he is in for a big, big shock. I feel I am the best junior featherweight in the world and I am excited to box in front of a huge television audience in the USA," said Frampton.
Frampton's manager, Barry McGuigan, is excited to have his fighter showcased on U.S. soil:
"This is fantastic news for Carl Frampton. He is defending his title live on CBS in the USA and I believe Carl's all action style will captivate the US fight fans.
On the undercard, Jermall Charlo will be taking on Cornelius Bundrage.
