Welterweight contender Keith Thurman wants a fight with pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather, that much we've known for some time now. But in this video interview with FightHub, Thurman says that although he wants a shot at the top dog before he calls it quits, he understands the business of boxing and is content to have his own career blossom after Floyd retires if he doesn't get the call. Keith is only 26 years old after all, and is expecting a long and fruitful career to still be in front of him.
Thurman also says the he discusses his options for fights with manager Al Haymon but hasn't heard Mayweather's name come up yet, which pretty much speaks for itself. Keith acknowledges that Floyd has earned his spot on the throne, and because of this he understands that Floyd carefully controls how he manages his career. With just a fight (or maybe two?) left for Mayweather, it's really Floyd's decision on who he chooses to fight, says Thurman. If Keith can't get the fight, he would still like an opportunity to watch Floyd train because he respects him as a fighter and knows there's a lot that he could learn from him.
