Ricky Burns, who is 1-3-1 in his last 5 bouts (1-4 if you don't count that farce of a draw against Ray Beltran), will be making his ring return on August 1st in Hull, England. There, he'll be taking on Ghana's Prince Ofotsu (15-4) in a 10-round lightweight bout. Burns is hoping to get his career back on course by returning to the 135lb division after losing convincingly to Omar Figueroa in May.
"I knew coming in (to the Figueroa fight) that I would make junior welterweight far too easily. My training camp went really well but I was able to eat freely all the way up until the day before the weigh in."
Ofotsu is pretty much an unknown quantity. Some label him as a 'prospect,' but with 4 losses in 19 fights, and no fights against anyone of note, it's a little hard for me to consider him a true prospect in any sense of the word. He's currently coming off a 19-month layoff after getting stopped in 8 rounds in late 2013.
Burns-Ofotsu will be on the undercard of Luke Campbell and Tommy Coyle.
