Main Events promoter Kathy Duva pretty much got what she expected this past weekend when her fighter, Sergey Kovalev, made quick work of Najib Mohammedi - stopping him in under three rounds. Asked about her plans for Kovalev following the fight, Duva said they'll be taking Sergey back to Moscow for a fight in November, and that she would love to make it against Artur Beterbiev who is also Russian and has a win over Kovalev in the amateurs.
If this fight were to come off it would surely be a great fight. Beterbiev only holds a 9-0 record but had an excellent amateur career and certainly looks more than capable of competing on the world stage. Betebiev has also expressed a desire to earn a professional win over Kovalev as well, so it would appear this could be a feasible fight to make. In fact Yvon Michel, who represents Beterbiev, has already come out and said that he is happy to make that fight a reality. But whether or not Duva is able to work out an agreement with Al Haymon is another issue entirely.
What do you think, fans? Is Beterbiev seasoned enough to take on Sergey Kovalev next? Who would you favor in a fight between the two?
