It's certainly not a novel idea, but UFC's Conor McGregor says he's willing to step into the squared-circle for a shot to face Floyd Mayweather. Saying that because there's no more interesting fights for Floyd after beating Manny Pacquaio, and knowing that Floyd would never step inside the octagon, he's willing to challenge Floyd to a boxing match that would garner a lot of interest.
"I certainly know he would not want to step into my world. The world of pure unarmed combat where there's no limitations, but I most certainly would step into his world. I would certainly box him if the opportunity arose. Most certainly.
"There's no real fight in boxing left for Floyd anyways. After the Manny [Pacquiao] fight happened, there's no more real draws. If you're looking for a fight that would generate interest, it must be a cross and match up different styles."
This is kind of a fun thing to think about though it'll never happen. And though I highly respect McGregor as a fighter and think he's an interesting personality, I really can't see any way he could cope with Floyd in a boxing ring. The two disciplines are really just too different. I still vividly remember James Toney's disasterous attempt to try his hand at MMA by fighting Randy Courture several years ago. That farce lasted a few whole minutes. This would probably be a more interesting fight than that, but McGregor still gets wiped out in a boxing ring against the bigger Mayweather - just don't tell Conor that.
"If we were to get it on, I would most certainly dismantle him, also," quipped McGregor.
What say you, fans? Could Conor stand any chance against Floyd in a boxing match?
