The 'Battle for L.A.' is scheduled for August 29th when all-action star Leo Santa Cruz takes on former titlist Abner Mares at the Staples Center. In this video interview, Santa Cruz talks a bit about his preparation for the upcoming fight by stating he has every intention of instigating a toe-to-toe brawl with Mares.
Leo went on to say that although he plans on using his height and reach advantages against Mares, the plain and simple fact is that, as Santa Cruz says, "Mexicans, we like to brawl," and should that style of fight begin not to suit him, he'll then try moving and outboxing Mares. I've never really seen Santa Cruz utilize a box-and-move style, so if it comes down to it It'll be interesting to see if he has that ability in his repertoire. I'm a little skeptical.
Finally, Santa Cruz says he has added motivation to show out on August 29th because he's had a history of playing second fiddle to Abner Mares, particularly in L.A., and now is his chance to capture the crown (though only figuratively).
