After a well-deserved four month rest following his loss at the heavy hands of Gennady Golovkin, Martin Murray (31-2, 14 KO) has been taking fights at an impressive pace for the last few months, if not exactly against an impressive level of competition. His next bout is more of the same, as he gets set to fight Jose Miguel Torres on September 5th in Leeds, England.
Promoter Eddie Hearn shared his thoughts on the matchup: "This is the perfect fight for Martin and his first real test since the Golovkin fight. Torres always comes to fight, is exciting to watch and can really punch. He has been in at elite level and neither will take a step backwards in Leeds."
Torres (31-6, 27 KO) may have better looking numbers than Murray's last two opponents, but he shouldn't pose much of a threat to the seasoned Murray, who managed to make Gennady Golovkin look momentarily human despite suffering a pretty thorough beating. Torres' best opponent of the past few years was David Lemieux, who knocked him out in the seventh round.
