Lucas Matthysse is set to face-off with Viktor Postol on Oct. 3 for the WBC's vacant junior welterweight title. In this in-camp interview with RingTV, which features some sparring footage, Matthysse talks about the work he's been putting in against taller sparring partners to help prepare him to force an inside fight against Postol.
Matthysse also says that since Danny Garcia has left the division there aren't too man big names left at 140lbs for him, but he still wants to win the title and make a few defenses before potentially moving up to welterweight, a division that is plenty stacked. Lucas also mentions that with Mayweather retiring he hopes that good matches start to develop at 147 between names like Garcia, Thurman, Maidana, and Khan, saying it would be good for the sport.
Finally, Matthysse is asked which one fighter he would choose to face after Postol if he could have it his way. While I expected him to suggest a rematch with Danny Garcia, he actually said he would like to face the great Manny Pacquiao, who he says has been mentioned as a strong possibility for him.
