De La Hoya wants to make Pacquiao-Matthysse next

Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya is looking to put together his next big fight, and he's calling on Bob Arum and Manny Pacquiao to close the deal.

Oscar De La Hoya says he admires Lucas Matthysse, so much so that he just made a trip down to Argentina for the sole purpose of showing his support to Matthysse while he prepares for his title fight against Viktor Postol. I guess Oscar sort of owes him that much gratitude after Matthysse ditched boxing's power broker Al Haymon in lieu of De La Hoya.

"I admire Lucas a lot, and I've visited him twice already because I admire him," said Oscar, referring to his recent visit during the buildup of the Matthysse-Ruslan Provodnikov bout. "And I will return after October 3rd to celebrate the world title that will be won by ‘The Machine.‘"

And with Oscar being confident that his fighter will take care of business on Oct. 3, he's already looking towards Matthysse's next fight, one he hopes to put on the world stage.

"There is a guy who manages Manny Pacquiao, and I am already in conversations with this gentleman to make a fight between Pacquiao and Matthysse," said De La Hoya, in obvious reference to Top Rank's Bob Arum. "It could be a complicated fight, but that's why Lucas is preparing so well. He has some great sparring partners to work with and he'll be ready."

Admittedly, this isn't a prospective fight I've given much thought about. Stylistically it could be a treat for fans to watch Manny and Lucas slug it out, and despite Pacquiao being the more dynamic fighter, he could well be diminished just enough to make this an intriguing match-up.

So why don't you fans tell me, how would you like a fight between Pacquiao and Matthysse?
