Despite a lot of talk and excitement about a potential Lomanchenko fight with either Nicholas Walters or Guillermo Rigondeaux, neither of those fights will be happening this year. Lomachenko (4-1, 2 KOs) will instead be defending his WBO featherweight title against Romulo Koasicha (25-4, 15 KOs) on the undercard of Bradley-Rios, November 7th.
Koasicha is currently ranked 7th by the WBO, 9th by the WBC, and 25th by Boxrec. He's now riding a four-fight win streak since losing a unanimous decision to Lee Selby in May of last year. He's most recently coming of a seventh round TKO win over Guillermo Avila in late July.
Lomachenko, despite having only five professional fights, is still considered to be one of the most talented fighters on the planet -- with a gaudy amateur record and two Olympic gold medals to back it up. Clearly Koasicha hasn't faced anyone of this caliber, and he'll certainly have more than his hands full come fight night. Hopefully, this fight will just bide some time before the more intriguing match-ups for Lomachenko can be ironed out.
