Khan: Beating Pacquiao could make me #1 P4P

Amir Khan says beating Manny Pacquiao could propel him to the top of the pound-for-pound rankings and finally get him a fight with the elusive Floyd Mayweather.

Amir Khan, who still wants a crack at Floyd Mayweather, thinks beating Manny Pacquiao could get him there - even with Mayweather's retirement. Khan began by telling the Bolton News that a fight wit Kell Brook is a good one for him to make down the line, but his current priority is Pacquiao.

"I think Manny Pacquiao would be the priority because I don’t know how long he has got left in his career, I think he would be the first fight to take.

"[A bout with Brook] would be a big British fight and me and Kell are of a similar age, so I think maybe it works out better to have that fight happen a bit later when he has built his reputation up a little more and fought some bigger and better names, but you know there is a fight there one day," continued Khan.

Khan has a built a reputation for himself by sitting on the sidelines, expecting a major fight to just fall into his lap. That strategy hasn't worked out the way he would've hoped over the last couple of years, but that hasn't stopped him from trying anyway.

With Khan now appearing to be the front-runner for Manny Pacquiao's return fight next Spring, he may finally get the big money fight he's been seeking. And Amir thinks beating Pacquiao could both propel him to number one in the pound-for-pound rankings and get him the opponent he's long been yearning for -- Floyd Mayweather.

"Manny P was probably number two pound-for-pound so by fighting him and beating him, it might get me to be the number one pound for pound fighter and then you get someone like Floyd Mayweather who might say I will come out of retirement and fight him – imagine that."

I'm imagining, Amir. The man who left you at the alter on three occasions is going to finally reverse course just fulfill your infatuation, I can dig it. In the meanwhile, what exactly does Brook have to do to secure a fight with you? I feel like your answer to that question is constantly shifting.
