Liam Smith is a very popular lad, it seems.
In addition to Frank Warren's offer to pit the WBO champion against Amir Khan, SkySports reports that he and his team are themselves entertaining an offer from Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.
No word as to which, if any, of the two's belts will be on the line should the fight happen. There is also no indication as to whether it would take place at 154, 160, or Caneloweight.
Smith (22-0-1, 12 KO) has scored three consecutive seventh-round stoppages and seven straight (T)KOs overall. In October, he defeated John Thompson for the WBO super welterweight title, then defended it against a badly overmatched Jimmy Kelly last month.
"Beefy" would certainly be a decent foe for Alvarez, especially considering that this fight is essentially a tuneup for Canelo's September showdown with Gennady Golovkin. I mean, Canelo would be a prohibitive favorite, but it's better matchmaking than we're accustomed to in this situation.
