Tonight in the main event on Showtime from Brooklyn's Barclays Center, Deontay "Bronze Bomber" Wilder successfully defended his WBC heavyweight title with a thunderous knockout of challenger Artur Szpilka in the ninth round, after what had been a very competitive fight between the two in front of a loud, largely pro-Szpilka crowd.
Wilder (36-0, 35 KO) had landed a lot of right hands that might have knocked out many of Wilder's previous victims, but Szpilka (20-2, 15 KO) ate the shots well, and never appeared in any danger. But when he went for a wild left hand in the ninth round, Wilder caught him with a true bomb of a right hand, which landed directly on the chin. Szpilka never saw it coming, and he was out as soon as it landed.
