Floyd Mayweather made a surprise appearance at this weekends Garcia-Guerrero fight where he would show up around the third round of the main event. When Brian Kenny asked Mayweather whether or not he planned a comeback to the sport and if he was there scouting potential opponents, Mayweather gave a soft no - only saying at the moment he didn't have the urge to come back (which obviously wasn't a strong statement ruling out a potential return).
After the fights, Floyd was later asked by FightHype about MMA fighters like Conor McGregor calling him out for a fight. This somehow ended spurred Mayweather into telling a story about UFC president Dana White - well, the Dana White he knows.
"This is something that's very, very interesting," began Mayweather. "We can forgive, but sometimes we never forget. "I remember one particular time back in the day when they had MMA, [there] wasn't really no weight class...before Dana White even came around and got with the Fertitta Brothers. Dana White, the same guy, used to run around with me, hang out with me, and I treated him just like I treat anybody else in my camp."
"At one particular time, you go and watch the beginning of my fights, I had a patch on my trunk which was a Bullenbeiser dog, and I wore the Bullenbeiser patch for Dana White - a lil' square guy. At that particular time I think the guy had a Honda..."
But despite driving a Honda, Floyd, being the upstanding guy that he is, would still remain friendly with Dana White.
"I didn't judge him, if you're my friend I love you unconditional, and I like you the same way I like everybody else that's around me. Now all the sudden the guy gets put in a position...the guy done shaved his head bald and acts like he's just tough and rugged...that's not the Dana White that I know."
"If I had to say so, he was a guy that went to college, and didn't know anything about mixed martial arts or boxing. Everyday he used to be around me, used to be around my uncle Jeff...now I think he's the president of the UFC which is a great thing."
So what does this have to do with anything? I don't really know to be honest. But there isn't much on the newsfront today and I got a little chuckle out of hearing Mayweather simultaneously praise and belittle Dana White within the same 30 seconds.
Maybe now Dana White will challenge Floyd to a fight, in an event that would surely only be rivaled by Vince McMahon's foray into the ring. Here's hoping...
