Hmmm - Will Amir Khan pass up his mandatory title shot and chance at redemption against Danny Garcia to take on Kell Brook this summer? Eddie Hearn is certainly suggesting it's a real possibility. Although there are still some major obstacles to overcome on the purse split, Hearn says both sides seem committed to making the fight happen.
"It's edging closer," Hearn told Kugan Cassius of IFL TV. "When there's dialogue and communication, you're always hopeful. Everyone's talking to get this done.
"I'm talking to (Al) Haymon and his team, my dad talked to Amir via direct message and Amir spoke to Adam Smith this morning (Thursday).
"What that means is everyone wants the fight - which is good news."
As it stands, a big UK fight between Khan and Brook at Wembley Stadium this summer is a more lucrative option than fighting Garcia Stateside. Then again, if Khan were to rematch and beat Garcia to claim his WBC title, obviously the Khan-Brook fight would only be that much bigger.
If you were to ask me, it would seem to make more sense to take on Garcia first to maximize a title unification fight with Kell Brook later, especially considering that Khan is supremely confident that he'll handle Garcia in a rematch. But it's pretty hard to tell what frame of mind Khan is in at any given moment. Just during the last week he's been quoted as saying he wants payback against Garcia while also saying the time was finally right to face Brook.
Where does Khan go?
