Julian Ramirez stayed undefeated last night in Los Angeles, defeating veteran Christopher Martin via wide 10-round decision in the main event of Golden Boy's LA Fight Club show from the Belasco Theater, televised on Estrella TV.
Ramirez (16-0, 8 KO) was the victor on scores of 100-90, 99-91, and 99-91, handing Martin (28-7-3, 9 KO) his fourth straight loss, and his fifth in his last six fights.
"I'm really happy with the decision," said Ramirez. "I know this fighter, Chris, and I knew he was going to go in there and give it his all. For my next fight I know that I need to get with my camp focus on training and not get caught up with any distractions."
Ramirez, 22, ranked as BLH's No. 3 featherweight prospect in the 2015 year-end review series, behind former Olympians Oscar Valdez and Joseph Diaz Jr, and this is a win that keeps his momentum going as the new year gets rolling.
Another featherweight prospect, Abraham Lopez, also stayed undefeated last night, pushing his mark to 20-0-1 (15 KO) with a stoppage win over Carlos Valcarcel after seven rounds. Lopez, 28, picked up the win when the 34-year-old Valcarcel (14-7-4, 5 KO) didn't come out for the eighth round.
"I will take a short fight any day," said Lopez. "I trained hard enough to possibly make it all 10 rounds, but the intensity of the fight made it possible to end things early. I want to get a world championship this 2016, and this is the beginning of that dream."
