Mike Towell, a Scottish boxing prospect who was injured in a fight on Thursday, passed away late Friday night at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, 12 hours after being taken off of life support.

Towell lost via fifth round TKO on Thursday against Dale Evans, dropped in the first and fifth rounds. He was taken from the ring via stretcher. His partner Chloe Ross says that he had been complaining of migraines in the lead-up to the fight on Thursday, but that he had chalked it up to stress over what was the biggest fight of his career to date.

Towell turned professional on March 18, 2013 at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow, where he would five six of his 13 bouts, including his last. He had a career record of 11-1-1 (8 KO).

The referee for the fight, Victor Loughlin, was also the referee for the Chris Eubank Jr vs Nick Blackwell fight in March, where Blackwell collapsed and was taken from the ring on a stretcher, ending his boxing career.
