The November 12 bout in Monte Carlo between Luis Ortiz and Malik Scott will air live on HBO, starting at 4:00 pm ET that day, as the network looks to continue its relationship with Ortiz after his move from Golden Boy to Matchroom Boxing.
Ortiz (25-0, 22 KO) has fought under the HBO banner in his last three fights, beating Matias Ariel Vidondo on the Golovkin-Lemieux PPV undercard last October, followed by HBO wins over Bryant Jennings and Tony Thompson in December and March, respectively.
He was seemingly headed for a WBA “world” title fight, but balked at the amount of money being offered before signing with UK-based Matchroom Boxing.
Scott (38-2-1, 13 KO) is a 36-year-old veteran from Philadelphia, formerly known somewhat derisively as “80-72,” because of how most of his fights turned out in the end. But he’s 3-2-1 in his last six bouts, including losses to Dereck Chisora (TKO-6) and Deontay Wilder (KO-1). He’s now fighting once a year, too, beating Alex Leapai on October 31, 2014, and then Tony Thompson on October 30, 2015, his last two bouts.
