Burns vs Relikh, Walsh vs Klimov, more: Boxing fight times and TV schedule for October 7-8

It’s another slow week in boxing, but there is a world title fight, kinda.

Scott Christ is the managing editor of Bad Left Hook and has been covering boxing for SB Nation since 2006.

Friday, October 7

Sky Sports (UK), 3:00 pm ET, Ricky Burns vs Kiryl Relikh, Dillian Whyte vs Ian Lewison, Scotty Cardle vs Kevin Hooper. Burns will be defending his WBA "world" title against Relikh, an unknown non-contender with an empty record from Belarus. BoxRec currently reckons that the Hatton Promotions fighter is the 230th-best 140-pound man in the sport. But he’s undefeated! If Burns wins, there’s a chance he’ll fight Adrien Broner in December. The other two fights are both for British titles, Cardle defending his lightweight belt and Whyte-Lewison for the vacant heavyweight title. BLH will have live coverage.

Estrella TV, 11:00 pm ET, Diego Magdaleno vs Art Hovhannisyan.

Telemundo, 11:35 pm ET, Orlando Cruz vs Luis Sanchez.

Saturday, October 8

BoxNation (UK), 2:00 pm ET, Liam Walsh vs Andrey Klimov. This is an IBF eliminator at 130 pounds. Why it’s an IBF eliminator at 130 pounds is another story, but it is one.

Azteca (MEX), 11:30 pm ET, Juan Francisco Estrada vs Raymond Tabugon. This is Estrada testing the waters at 115 pounds, not quite the same way that Chocolatito Gonzalez did, but then Estrada is not Gonzalez.
