It looks like we’ll kick off 2017 with a strong start. A title fight rematch between Carl Frampton and Leo Santa Cruz is reportedly good to go, and it’s now being reported that another title fight will likely serve as a co-feature on that card between WBC lightweight champion Dejan Zlaticanin (22-0, 15 KOs) and Mikey Garcia (35-0, 29 KOs). RingTV reports that the Frampton-Santa Cruz card is being targeted for January 28.
Promoter Lou DiBella emphasizes that while the date and venue for Garcia-Zlaticanin are not yet set in stone, it is in fact expected to be apart of the Frampton-Santa Cruz card which will be aired on Showtime.
Garcia has been stating for a while now that his intention was to move back down to lightweight for a title shot after ending his long layoff and shaking the rust off against Elio Rojas, and then perhaps move back up in weight for other challenges. Zlaticanin, on the other hand, seems perfectly comfortable remaining at lightweight for the time being.
What say you, fans? Who ya got in this fight?
