Klitschko injured, fight with Joshua postponed until 2017

Another December 10 fight has fallen off the table.

Wladimir Klitschko won’t be fighting Anthony Joshua on December 10, or anyone else for that matter. Klitschko has reportedly suffered a “minor injury” in training, and is out for the rest of the year.

A fight between the two is still anticipated for the spring of 2017, but we’ll just have to wait and see how all that shakes out. There was already a delay while the two sides waited for the WBA to rule on whether or not its heavyweight title would be up for grabs between Joshua, who holds the IBF belt, and Klitschko, so the idea that this fight was definitely going to happen is a bit suspect in the first place.

Klitschko, 40, hasn’t fought since his November 2015 loss to Tyson Fury, and will now sit out the entirety of 2016. He’s not getting any younger, obviously, and a long break to come back and fight a powerful young puncher in Joshua could be a big problem.

Joshua (17-0, 17 KO) will still fight on December 10 against an opponent to be named.
