Assuming that all goes well with Mikey Garcia’s title fight against Dejan Zlaticanin set for Jan. 28, Showtime Sports leadman Stephen Espinoza would like make a fight between Garcia and Adrien Broner sometime in the near future.

While Garcia will be vying for a lightweight title in his next outing, he has openly said that he’s willing to consider moving back up in weight after capturing a lightweight world title. If that is in fact the case, Espinoza tells RingTV about his grand plans:

“If (Garcia is) at 140, you can sort of mix and match some of the names on this slate and I’d like to say somewhere in the future — a Adrien Broner-Mikey Garcia fight, maybe at 140,” Espinoza told RingTV.com on Tuesday after Showtime announced seven intriguing fights for 2016-17. “It’s just my idea. You can’t get ahead of yourselves. Mikey has to see how he feels at 135.”

There’s no doubt that a fight between Garcia and Broner would draw some serious attention, even if hardcore fans openly question Broner’s dedication to the sport write-off his chances against top competition. But there’s certainly enough talent there to make it interesting.
