Demetrius Andrade vs. Jack Culcay collapses

Andrade has fought just twice since 2014.

The upcoming WBA super welterweight title bout between Demetrius Andrade and Jack Culcay, which was scheduled for this Saturday (November 5th), is dead in the water. Andrade and his team reportedly missed several deadlines, ultimately signing the contract just last week.

That article is an interesting read, revealing an incredible level of mismanagement on Team Andrade’s part. Not only did they fail to produce a contract until well past the due date, they spent the time campaigning for WBC and WBO title shots. They didn’t even notice that the fight was canceled, as Andrade happily tweeted this five days ago.

The funniest part of this is that Culcay, by all accounts, signed his contract immediately after Team Sauerland won the purse bid. Andrade was either lying or so far out of the loop that he’d need three Sherpas to find it again.

"Boo Boo" is incredibly talented, but this isn’t even the first time he’s shot himself in the foot. He pulled out of a 2014 title defense against Jermell Charlo despite a career-high payday and ultimately spent so long on the shelf that the WBO stripped him of his title.

I’m honestly still kind of baffled that anyone could screw up this badly, though; he cited issues with promoter communication for the Charlo fight, but there is no excuse for the current shenanigans besides rank incompetence.

At least it’s entertaining incompetence.
