Sergey Kovalev and Andre Ward were on weight for tomorrow night’s HBO pay-per-view main event in Las Vegas, and the big fight is on.
Ward (30-0, 15 KO) weighed in at the division limit of 175 pounds, as did Kovalev (30-0-1, 26 KO), who will be defending the WBA, IBF, and WBO light heavyweight title belts, as well as the status of world’s best light heavyweight, period. The winner could also, as the fight’s advertising indicates, be considered the world’s best pound-for-pound fighter.
Opening the PPV telecast will be middleweights Curtis Stevens (28-5, 21 KO) and James de la Rosa (23-4, 13 KO) in a 10-round bout. de la Rosa weighed in at 159¾, with Stevens at 157½.
Former lightweight titleholder Darleys Perez (33-2-1, 21 KO) will move up in weight to take on Maurice Hooker (21-0-2, 16 KO) in another 10-round fight. Hooker weighed in at 139, with Perez at 137½.
