Boxing's biggest grudge match between Brandon Rios and Victor Ortiz seems to be well on its way. In fact, FightHype.com just caught up with Rios at his gym to talk about the upcoming fight and where things stand. Here's what he had to say.
On the response he's been getting about a fight with Victor Ortiz:
"I've been getting messages and stuff like that saying 'is the fight really happening?' Yeah, it's gonna happen in February but we don't know yet what date, where...last time I talked to my lawyer it was going to be in either The Forum or the Staples Center, but we don't know where at yet, but it's gonna happen. It's gonna happen in the middle of February."
On if he thinks everybody's been waiting for this fight to happen:
"Not only everybody, I've been waiting for the fight! I've been waiting for the fight but the reason we couldn't do it because the fact that, different promotions. But now we don't have different promotions no more so now we ready. So, it's gonna be an exciting fight."
On what if he expects fireworks at the press conference:
"We don't know, bro. That's what people keep telling me...Honestly, I don't really know how it's gonna play out....we just gotta wait until the day...if he says something stupid or the way I act that day, or the way that we feel about each other - who knows, I really don't know.
"I know the way we feel about each other - that we fuckin' hate each other - yes, that's no lie. That's a fact. But I don't know how it's gonna play out...All I've been thinking about is training and me being in the best shape of my life. Yes, I already said what I had to say in the past, and I already said what I had to say when he called me out...so now what we're doing is concentrating and getting ready for the fight. So that's what I'm doing now, the fight's gonna happen, that's 100% sure...so what more do we need to say about it?
"The fight is already hyped-up because people have been wanting to see this fight, we don't need to hype it up even more than its been hyped-up. So now they're gonna have to wait until the press conference to see what's gonna happen at the press conference."
