Manny Pacquiao returns after a lengthy and legitimate retirement of seven months tomorrow night, when the 37-year-old legend challenges Jessie Vargas for the WBO welterweight title.
Both fighters made weight today in Las Vegas, with Pacquiao (58-6-2, 38 KO) tipping the scales at 144.8 pounds, and Vargas (27-1, 10 KO) coming in at 146½. The fight’s limit was 147 pounds, so both appeared to make that comfortably.
Three more WBO title fights will feature on the undercard. In the pay-per-view co-feature, Oscar Valdez (20-0, 18 KO) will defend his featherweight title for the first time against Hiroshige Osawa (30-3-4, 19 KO) of Japan. Both fighters weighed in at 125¼, below the 126-pound limit.
Nonito Donaire (37-3, 24 KO) will defend his WBO super bantamweight title against Jessie Magdaleno (23-0, 17 KO). Donaire came in just under the 122-pound limit at 121.8 pounds, with Magdaleno at 121¼.
The vacant WBO flyweight title is on the line between Shiming Zou (8-1, 2 KO) and Prasitak Paphrom, aka Kwanpichit OnesongchaiGym (39-1-2, 24 KO), in a rematch of what was a one-sided win for Zou the first time around. Zou weighed in at 111, a pound under the limit, with Paphrom at 111½.
Two 2016 Olympians are making their pro debuts on the preliminary undercard, as super featherweight Robson Conceição of Brazil, who won a gold medal, and lightweight Teofimo Lopez Jr of the United States, representing Honduras in Rio, will be in action.
