Starting this evening at 10:35 pm ET, ShoBox: The New Generation returns to Showtime with a three-fight card from Corona, California, headlined by top welterweight prospect Taras Shelestyuk.
Shelestyuk (14-0, 9 KO) will be facing Jimmy Herrera (15-3-1, 8 KO), a Chicago fighter, in a 10-round bout. Shelestyuk was a terrific amateur in Ukraine, winning gold at the 2011 World Amateur championships, and bronze at the 2012 Olympics in London.
Herrera’s has faced a few notable opponents. In 2012, he lost an eight-round decision to Adrian Granados, but in 2014 he scored an upset over Mike Jones, who was supposed to be facing a soft touch in his return to action. Instead, Herrera stopped him after seven rounds. But in his next fight, Herrera was knocked out in the second round by Egis Kavaliauskas.
In a cruiserweight matchup, Constantin Bejenaru (11-0, 4 KO) and Steve Bujaj (16-0-1, 11 KO) put their unbeaten records on the line in another 10-round fight. And in an eight-round lightweight opener, Vitor Jones Freitas (12-0, 6 KO) will face Manuel Mendez (12-1-2, 8 KO).
