This was re-match of a fight that occurred last year with Esteche losing an 8 rounder by MD. At that time, no world titles were on the line. This time, both women came to this match holding titles.
Peralta held the WBO and IBF titles, while Esteche held the WBA title. Peralta was undefeated while Esteche was 2-2-2 in her last 6 fights.
Now I confess that the bulk of this fight wasn’t very exciting. And actually, it was a total snoozefest. Now doubt, there was skill on display but neither woman looked like she had any spark. Esteche was winning simply because she was doing more.
But then something happened in R8-10. Perhaps sensing that the fight had got away from her, Peralta turned up the heat. This culminated in a memorable final round with both women swinging hard for the fences. Sadly, for Peralta, it was too late.
