Two titles have changed hands in Manchester on today’s Joshua-Molina undercard, with Kal Yafai winning a world title at super flyweight, and Frank Buglioni taking the British title at light heavyweight.
Yafai (21-0, 15 KO) widely outpointed Luis Concepcion of Panama to win the WBA “world” super flyweight title, taking the belt on scores of 117-110, 119-108, and 120-108.
The 27-year-old Yafai dominated the bout against Concepcion (35-5, 24 KO), who lost the belt on the scales on Friday, failing to make weight for the 115-pound fight.
The British light heavyweight title also has a new owner, as Frank Buglioni (19-2-1, 15 KO) stopped Hosea Burton (18-1, 9 KO) at 1:56 of the 12th and final round, dropping him once in each of the last two rounds of the fight.
Buglioni, 27, put in the performance of his career in this one, outlasting Burton in a tough fight, one that could demand an immediate rematch, if the 28-year-old Burton wants one.
Callum Smith (22-0, 17 KO) retained his British super middleweight title, with an easy-as-expected win over Luke Blackledge (22-3-2, 7 KO). The 26-year-old Smith stopped Blackledge, also 26, at 2:34 of round 10, and now will likely move on to world title shot in 2017.
