Chris Eubank Jr., never the most predictable sort, may have outdone himself here. The former BBBofC Middleweight Champion is set to move up to super middleweight to take on IBO champion Renold Quinlan on an ITV pay-per-view.
The fight does not yet have a date more specific than "early 2017," nor any undercard details.
Quinlan (11-1, 7 KO) earned the biggest win of his career two months ago with a second-round knockout of countryman Daniel Geale for the then-vacant belt. His résumé basically begins and ends there, a close loss to Jake Carr in 2014 his only other fight of note. Eubank (23-1, 18 KO) moving up in weight is basically the only intriguing thing about the matchup and it’s definitely not enough to justify a pay-per-view.
On the bright side, this could signal a whole new level of shenanigans for the Eubank clan in 2017. The sky’s the limit, and by "the sky" I mean Gennady Golovkin.
